This emulator provides a permanent solution for the Electronic Steering Lock (ELV/ESL) Failure commonly found in Volvo's new-generation SPA and CMA platform vehicles (2020–2022+), including the S90, V90, XC90, XC60, V60, and XC40. This fault can prevent the vehicle from starting or cause the ignition system to become unresponsive.

The authorized Volvo repair procedure typically involves ordering and replacing the steering lock unit, which is expensive and requires complex online programming. This emulator is designed to permanently bypass the failure-prone mechanical steering lock mechanism.

No Programming Required

Installation Instructions

1. Turn the ignition off.

2. Disconnect the wiring connector from the faulty original ESCL unit.

3. IMPORTANT: If the steering lock is mechanically stuck in the locked position, remove the lock assembly from the vehicle before proceeding.

4. Connect the purchased emulator to the vehicle's original ESCL connector.

5. Connect a professional diagnostic tool to the vehicle.

6. Access the CEM module (or the relevant system) and clear/reset all steering lock-related fault codes.

7. Start the vehicle.

LED Status Indicators

The emulator simulates the operating status of the original steering lock:

Solid Green LED

Meaning: Successful operation. The emulator is in the unlocked state and the vehicle is ready to start.

Solid Red LED

Meaning: The emulator is in the locked state. (This may be normal when the ignition is switched off.)

Flashing Red LED

Meaning: Error condition. The emulator is connected, but the steering lock fault code stored in the vehicle's control module (CEM) has not yet been cleared. Connect a diagnostic tool and reset the fault codes.
